They make good, solid quality products that are suited for almost every situation you can run into through the cold winters in the north. But that is not all; they do have a few other shoes that are suited for warmer conditions.

Let us start with the boots first. The boots from Sorel is as we know some of the warmest boots you can get. Some of the other qualities are not as well known. If we take their best known model, the Caribou, we can se that this is a boot that is very well thought through. They are made with a rubber sole and lower shoe. This makes the boot very durable and gives it a good grip on icy surfaces. The upper boot is made from suede leather that makes it completely water proof from top to bottom. Inside there is a removable felt shoe that is very handy if you should get water inside the boots. To top it of there is a wool/acryl blend that isolates the shoe in a very good way. This shoe is rated as low as 40 below.

Sorel also has an excellent line of slippers. It consists of four models, two for men and two for women. Both sexes have one high and one low model. All of these are equipped with a rubber boot that makes it possible to take short trips out of the house. They are all filled with the same wool/acryl blend that is in the Caribou.

Sorel has also a few semi summer shoes that give the brand a new dimension. They have produced boots since 1908, but are still rocking just as hard as ever.

If you don't know what the Sorel Caribou is, then you have probably been asleep for the last years. Sorel, the company that produces the Caribou, claims that the shoe is the ultimate boot for all winter uses. Actually the company is now owned by Columbia, a clothing company that delivers to the whole world.

After using the Caribou for a few years now I feel that I have tested it enough to let everyone know what I think of the shoe. I have tested it in almost all conditions I can think of. I have used it for everything from walking to the store to two week long ice fishing trips with temperatures as low as 20 below celsius.

When I first bought the shoe I thought it was pretty ugly. I still do. It is a shoe with rubber around the foot and leather on the upper part of the outer shoe. You can imagine that the shoe is not something you use in a wedding. Somehow it has managed to become some sort of fashion wear in the norther parts of the world.

How does it perform then? I have to say that I am really impressed by it. I have never had a winter shoe that is as good as the Caribou. When I have been out in the extreme temperatures that occur here frequently I have never, and I mean never, been cold in this boot. When all my friends was freezing in their standard winter shoes, I was actually considering using shoes that were a bit colder, just to chill my feet down. This is the main advantage of the Caribou. But it has two other big pros. The first one is that it is completely water proof. This makes it a much more usable boot in all conditions. The second pro is that it is practically impossible to wear out a pair of Caribous if you threat them right. And that is not hard with a boot like this.

Another good thing about the Caribou is the price. Depending on your location, you can get it as low as 0 most places.

The conclusion is that this is a boot that you should try if you live in an area that have cold winters.

The name Sorel is not the place that most people think it is. Although there is a town called Sorel, Quebec, has no direct connection with the name ofShoes. The shoes were created in Kitchener, Ontario from a man named AR Kaufman in 1907. He also created a couple of other brands. They are probably the best known of them, Black Diamond and Fraser.

Sorel has become the most popular brands and successful, thanks to Kaufman's very high quality and ease of use. Although Kaufman's family, began production in 1907, Sorel boots were not introduced on the market until 1959. It 'been a success from the beginning, and has continued to grow inthe years, and today more than ever before. The reason for choosing the name Kaufman "Sorel", that people will be that the associations of the city Sorel, who was after the war as a city with a robust and stable shipbuilding and steel production was known.

In 2000, Sorel, the company was declared insolvent. After a couple of warm winters and a few shops that went south, they could no longer pay the bills. Up to this moment had boots made in DStreet in Kitchener, Ontario. They where one of the few companies that have made the boots, then in Canada. After the failure Columbia Sportswear came and bought the name. Have you not just today. The shoes are made in China.

Ironically, led to the shoe, an even greater success after failure. The reason is mainly that Columbia was able to get the production costs to a level that the shoes are very affordable compared to many of its competitors does.
